Know your Ayurvedic Type and Remedies

According to Ayurveda, each of us has a unique mix of three mind and body principles, which creates our specific mental and physical characteristics. The 3 Doshas are known as VATA, PITTA, and KAPHA.

In our last post on Facebook, we talked about your Ayurveda type based on a few characteristics.

It’s very important to balance our condition with Constitution.

Dr. Reetu Panwar, tells you what to eat and what not to eat in order to balance your Doshas. She also provides you with exercises and therapies for the same.

VATA

The Vata Dosha contains the properties of the elements ether and air. Vata is responsible for our energy and movement as well as for nerve impulses. Breath, speech, circulation, and digestion are all the manifestation of Vata.

DIET and THERAPIES FOR VATA

What to eat – Trifla, sahjan patti, drumstick soup, neem leaves, fenugreek (methi) seeds (ark), ajwain (ark), raw turmeric (3 gms), dry ginger, 10 raisins (munakka), 5 walnuts, makhanas (20 gms), java plum (jamun), Orange (santra), masoor dal, mustard oil (sarson).

What not to eat – Sweet lemon (mausami), besan kadhi, cabbage, moong dal, cauliflower, chickpeas (cholley), kidney beans (rajma), rice, lauki (bottle gourd), curd, stale food.

Mudras – Prana mudra and Apaan mudra

Exercises – Light asanas and pranayama

Therapies – Dhyan abhyang with vaatharan oil, herbal steam, bedsheet pack, mud pack, enema, hot & cold compress, rigidity cure fermentation.

PITTA

Pitta governs all heat, metabolism and transformation in the mind and body. It controls how we digest foods, how we metabolize our sensory perceptions, and how we discriminate between right and wrong. Pitta governs the important digestive “agnis” or fires of the body.

DIET and THERAPIES FOR PITTA

What to eat – Ghee, amla, lauki (bottle gourd), gulkand, plum, watermelon, muskmelon, papaya, chikoo, fresh curd, hing, boil the outer layer of pomegranate and mix with honey and drink, mint tea, sugarcane juice, raddish, soaked dry fruits, dhaniya (ark), ajwain (ark), neem leaves.

What not to eat – Red chilli, arhar dal, urad dal, besan kadhi, chickpeas (cholle), kidney beans (rajma), fried and stale food, packaged pineapple, alcohol, caffeine, sour food and drinks.

Mudras – Apaan Mudra, gyan mudra, vata shamak mudra

Exercises – Absorb moonlight, avoid running and heavy workouts, put 2 drops of ghee in each nostril, light workout

Therapies – Virechan, kunjal, mud pack, enema, detox pack, water therapy.

KAPHA

With the Kapha type, the earth and water elements meet. Therefore, Kapha unites properties such as heavy, slow, and steady, but also soft, dense, tough, and cold. In the body, Kapha is responsible for solidity and all structures as well as for the right amount of body fluids.

DIET and THERAPIES FOR KAPHA

What to eat – Honey, saffron (kesar), dry ginger, cinnamon (dal chinni), pineapple, papaya, jaggery, apricot, amla, orange, 5 raisins and 2 fig (anjeer) slice – boil in the morning and consume the water, tulsi leaves & seeds, soup, all dry fruits, drink only when thirsty, put almond oil in nose, water chestnut (singhara) atta

What not to eat – Lauki (bottle gourd), moong dal, rice, curd, lemon, sweet lemon, banana, sugarcane juice, coconut water, TATA salt, refined oil

Mudras – Surya Mudra, pran mudra

Exercises – All asanas can be done, surya namaskar, pranayama, power yoga and heavy exercises. running.

Therapies – Fermentation, sun bath, therapeutic massage, herbal steam.

These diets and exercises are extremely for the people with only particualr type of Doshas, At times, a person is a mix 2 or all the 3 doshas. For that the diet and exercises should only be done after consulting a Naturopath.
